Thoughts of the day

I mentioned the other day that I was hoping to spend 2013 practicing being more mindful. I’m not off to a great start because I made dinner last night, went out to run a couple errands and came home to the horrifying fact that I had left the oven on.  Thank the Good Lord in heaven above that nothing terrible happened.

And then this morning, I managed to lose my phone at CrossFit.  I swore I had it, went back home to look for it there, went BACK to CrossFit and finally had someone call it for me.  It had slid down behind the cabinet into the Lost & Found pile.  So, whatever productiveness I had hoped to accomplish in the 90 minutes between CrossFit and work was a bust.  I spent the whole time searching around for my phone.  Ugh.  PageBreakSpeaking of CrossFit, I got my L1 Trainer certificate in the mail yesterday.  That thing is FANCY.  Thanks to all of you who gave me a social media shout out on the achievement!  Much appreciated. :)

I mentioned on Facebook yesterday that I’ve been upping my vegetable and water intake over the last week or so, trying to get back “on track” after an indulgent holiday season. It’s been good.  My energy level is through the roof, I feel good and my sugar cravings are subsiding.

The added fiber is doing what fiber does and sweeping out all the yucky stuff I ate over the holidays.  That has caused some additional, how shall we say, airborne gastrointestinal byproduct.  I’m hoping this doesn’t last long and my body adjusts back to  consuming more veggies pretty soon.  Do you have any experience with this and how long it takes for your body to adjust?

It’s supposed to be in the 60’s and maybe even 70’s this weekend. I just can’t believe it. It’s JANUARY.  The record high in Arlington for January 13 (Sunday) is 69, so there’s a chance we could beat that this weekend!  Absolutely crazy.  I sort of miss snow.

Speaking of warm weather, we’re thinking of taking a trip to San Juan, PR just to get away for a long weekend.  Flights are direct and cheap.  Anyone been there?  Any recommendations of where to stay or what to do while we’re there?  I should  practicar mi Español before we go.PageBreak

I’m one of the only people I know who still uses a pencil and paper day planner calendar.  I tried using the iPhone but it didn’t work for me because I sort of need to see the whole week at once and the screen was too small.

I went to Barnes & Noble and got this pretty thing for less than $5.  Plus I had a gift card.  Anyone else out there old school like me?

I love my old school planner – I use a Moleskine and swear by it! The iPhone is fine and works in a pinch, but I need to write things down!
