I have but one resolution for 2012
res·o·lu·tion /ˌrɛz
əˈlu
ʃən/[rez-uh-loo-shuh
n] noun
1. a formal expression of opinion or intention made, usually after voting, by a formal organization, a legislature, a club, or other group. Compare concurrent resolution, joint resolution.
2. a resolve or determination: to make a firm resolution to do something.
3. the act of resolving or determining upon an action or course of action, method, procedure, etc.
4. the mental state or quality of being resolved or resolute; firmness of purpose.
5. the act or process of resolving or separating into constituent or elementary parts.
This is not to say I do not have goals for 2012; I consider them differently. My resolution for 2012 is largely based in this quote, by Henry David Thoreau.

In 2012, I will strive every day to work toward living the life I’ve imagined. The decisions I make will be made with this mantra in mind every day.
Is my life unlike what I’ve imagined? Not at all. I’m entering 2012 debt free (except for my car), planning my wedding to my best friend and and 15 lbs lighter than I was a year ago. Life is undoubtedly good and all that I could have hoped for.
Was my life unlike what I imagined 4 years ago? Yes, yes it was. I spent 2008 extricating myself from the wrong life. I spent 2009 overcorrecting and dealing with stress in unhealthy ways. I spent 2010 making the tough decisions and it all started to pay off as I saw myself flourish in 2011.
I have big dreams; I always have. I cannot escape them. In the universe’s grand scheme, I was placed here on earth for certain reasons, some of which I am living up to, some of which I am not. I am most happy when I am authentic to myself and least happy when I am operating under someone else’s definition of me.
So, in 2012, I resolve to be my best me by following my dreams and living authentically as me.
But goals? To-dos I can happily tick off throughout the next 12 months? Yes, I have those too.
Sneak preview:
- Complete a sprint triathlon (bonus points for no panic attack in the water)
- Continue working toward becoming a Les Mills Elite Instructor (carry over from last year)
- Read 20 books (carry over from 2010)
I have a lot of other possible goals jingling around in my head, so the final list is still in production. In the meantime, I’m going to go confidently in the direction of the laundry room because dirty, stinky gym clothes wait for no woman.
Happy 2012.
