{insert cliche New Year’s Resolutions post title}

by Chase on January 20, 2011

So, I made up some New Year’s resolutions but I didn’t want to publish at first them because it didn’t feel right.

But now it feels right.

Maybe I just needed a little time to get to know 2011.

Here are the big ones:

1.  I have declared Summer 2011 as THE HOTTEST SUMMER ON RECORD And I’m not talking about the weather. ;)   I’m talkin’ about treating my body right and feeling like a million bucks.  And if I happen to look hot in the process, then so be it.  There’s something very alluring and {dare I say} sexy about the confidence and glow that comes from healthy eating, regular exercise and plenty of sleep.

2.  I want to {say I ran} a marathon.  I don’t actually think I want to run the marathon.  I expect it to be 4-5 hours of the hardest thing I’ve ever done.  And some day I’ll go through labor and delivery and I’ll look back and say, “AHHH!! I’d rather be at mile 24 right now!”  But whatever doesn’t kill you only makes you stronger, right?  March 26th, 2011.  Here we go.

3. I want to become a Les Mills Elite instructor.  I don’t know which program yet, and I’m not 100% sure of the road to get there, but I know the first step is attending an Advanced Instructor Module.  I’m registered for one for BODYSTEP on March 4th.  I even had to forgo the hair salon this spring to make it work with the budget.  But it’s money well spent to be able to work with Lisa Osbourne who is the queen of BODYSTEP. I started teaching BODYSTEP almost 7 years ago; it’s time to take it to the next level.  This is all so that when Les Mills opens the door for new trainers, I am ready.

4. Make the blog better.  I decided to take this sweet little thing off the wordpress platform and put it on my own self-hosted site and make it more my own.  Definitely a work in progress but I hope to have a better version of The CHASE Project unveiled in 2011.

I’ve also got some other ones but they’re not really worth publishing.  But, so far, Ravens season not withstanding, ’11 is off to a great start!

So, anyway, lately I’ve been on budget lockdown because I’m saving up for something because I’ve stopped using credit cards altogether (harder than it sounds!) so I’ve been doing a lot of “eating whatever’s in the fridge” because we have plenty of ingredients.  {umm, nice run-on sentence, Chase} But I have to say, I’ve come up with some pretty interesting combinations!  The other day, I made myself a parfait of cottage cheese, clementine sections and chopped almonds and it was delicious in a sort of italian way (something about the clementine and almond flavors together…?).

So what’s the craziest “clean out the fridge” food item you’ve ever eaten that was surprisingly delicious?

Make it a good one!

Those are awesome goals! And running a marathon isn’t that bad, but you really do need to want it. Its not something you can half-ass without having a miserable time…

Oh, and that is one of my fav Calvin and Hobbes frames! Love it!

I’ve definitely realized that it’s something that cannot be half-assed! I think I’ve almost scared myself into adhering to my training schedule! I have a bad habit of winging races but not this one!! =D

Great resolutions!

I did something similar in the month of September – I lived on a $150 grocery budget. It is possible…hard but possible!

Nice!! It is hard! You really have to take stock about what’s really important! Fruit and veggies yes. Cookies no ;)

My grocery budget is only $125 (for just me)! I stick to fruits and veggies and staples like rice, pasta/couscous, quinoa, broths, chickpeas, lentils, etc. I make my lunch every day, but I do get take-out for dinner a couple of nights a week, mostly because of my fiance! I would cook every night, but he likes take-out and I can’t turn it down :)

That’s very impressive… $125! I could easily go through $125 a WEEK. I’ve learned to love the cheap and healthy options – lentils, brown rice… huge value (both pocketbook and nutrition) in those! I’m still finding a way to get cheap clementines because I’ve gone through 3 crates this winter already. :)

That’s awesome! I will have to really try it. I think the biggest thing is not eating out. Such a waste of money when you actually crunch the numbers!

I combined roasted butternut squash, onions and sweet pototoes that was surpluss of the soup I made, the left-over soup, some left over roasted asparagus and coconut dahl with basmati rice. I added some white wine and sage and then I stopped myself. It was so hearty and stewy. Really good.

GO GO GO re: Elite Instructor! I’m hoping to do the same for Combat and Pump (even if takes me for-freakin-ever:) I can’t wait to hear how it is!!!
Also, who did you go to for site hosting? I am still on WordPress but my goal for my blog this year is similar to yours, and I think that would be a good start!

I reached out to a guy (who I can email you about separately) to do some blog design… but I think it’s going to have to wait until the spring for right now!

For lunch today i ate whole foods boxed mac & cheese leftovers (kraft is better!), with chopped celery and rotisserie chicken. Threw it all in a bowl together, heated it up and ate it all. it was actually delicious!
